Kansas Food Bank Receives Record-Setting Donation from Delta Dental of Kansas

By , March 21st, 2019 11:41am

WICHITA – Today, the Kansas Food Bank will receive the largest one-time operational donation in its history thanks to Delta Dental of Kansas.

The $500,000 donation will focus on providing fresh fruit and vegetables and additional healthy foods choices such as low sodium and whole grain options for urban and rural communities throughout the state.

“March is National Nutrition month and we are pleased to announce this donation to help provide healthy, nutritional options for kids and families across Kansas,” said Michael J. Herbert, President and CEO, Delta Dental of Kansas. “Food choices have a direct impact on oral health – especially in children.  We are honored to partner with the Kansas Food Bank to help distribute more healthy and fresh food options to those in need throughout our state.”

Fresh fruit and vegetables are often the most expensive and perishable items on any grocery list. This means those are the first to get cut when food budgets are tight.  Many of the families who will be served by this program had very limited access to healthy food choices on a regular basis.

The donation will be used for the summer programs in rural areas of the state and to increase distribution of healthy food choices across the Kansas Food Bank’s 73,000 square mile service area.

“We are extremely grateful for the support of Delta Dental of Kansas,” said Brian Walker, President & CEO, Kansas Food Bank. “This historical donation will provide new healthy food choices for thousands of families in our state. It will allow us to take our program to the next level with more nutritious and fresh options and new distribution locations statewide.”

Delta Dental of Kansas is a long-time supporter of the Kansas Food Bank providing thousands of dental care kits for backpacks each year to continue oral health education for Kansans.

Neighborhood of Good® with Lauren Alaina

By , February 13th, 2019 9:40am

We are so proud to be a part of this effort with State Farm’s Neighborhood of Good and Lauren Alaina.  Lauren visited the Kansas Food Bank back in November when she was here in concert at Intrust Bank Arena.  She and several of her fans came in to help pack Food 4 Kids packets and discovered the magic that volunteering here at the food bank brings.

Are you #Hardwiredtohelp? The Staff at KFB is!

By , February 1st, 2019 11:42am

Would you like to win a pair of tickets to see Metallica?  Here is how you can do just that!  We will be giving away two pair of tickets to see Metallica on Monday, March 4th at Intrust Bank Arena.

*Join us in celebrating METAL, the band METALLICA that is!

Are you #HardwiredToHelp?

Show us your best 80’s picture or better yet, bring out that 80’s attire and come volunteer with us at the food bank between January 14th and Feb 27th and enter to win a pair of tickets to see Metallica at Intrust Bank Arena on Monday, March 4th.

Every volunteer session will equal one entry.  Bring a friend who has not volunteered here before and earn an additional entry.

The 80’s Staff

Some of us here at the Kansas Food Bank actually lived the metal days of the 80’s long before we became METAL CAN aficionados.

For four weeks leading up to the drawing we will post our “80’s Staff” showing off their best look (from the 80’s of course)!  We will encourage people to drop off canned items during these four weeks to support the staff member who will draw the lucky winners of the two pair of tickets to see Metallica on March 4th.  This will give our staff the opportunity to compete a bit as well, sharing their posts encouraging people to drop off specific canned items.  The 80’s week staff that collected the most pounds will draw the winners.

Week:  February 4            Brian & Becky
